Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS)
Electronic Article Surveillance for practical retail loss prevention. An EAS system is simple in principle: a tag or label on the product, an antenna at the exit, and a detacher or deactivator at the till. Doing it well in a real shop is where experience matters.
The components
RF and AM systems
Two established EAS technologies. RF (radio frequency) is common in fashion and general retail; AM (acousto-magnetic) performs well with wider exits and metal-rich environments. WELLPOINT works with both and recommends by store, not by habit.
Antennas and pedestals
The detection gate at the exit, from slim transparent panels to robust pedestals, sized to the entrance width and chosen to fit the shopfront.
Hard tags
Reusable tags pinned to garments and goods, removed at the till with a detacher. Many shapes for clothing, shoes, bottles, eyewear and boxed goods.
Soft labels
Adhesive labels for packaged goods, deactivated at the till so the customer walks out without an alarm.
Detachers and deactivators
The till-side equipment that releases hard tags and switches off labels, matched to the tag and label types in use.
Accessories
Lanyards, pins, safers for high-value items, and the small parts that keep a system running for years.

Experience you can see
EAS is the WELLPOINT product family with the longest history and the largest archive of real installations: boutiques, supermarkets, pharmacies, electronics stores, sports shops and retail chains across Europe. We have installed systems in glass shopfronts, historic buildings, shopping-centre units and stores with three entrances and one till.
That experience shows in the details: where the antennas go so bags do not brush them, how to tune a system near escalators and metal doors, and which labels survive a freezer cabinet.
What we say plainly
- Traditional EAS hardware is mainly partner-manufactured to WELLPOINT requirements. Our contribution is selection, configuration and installation experience.
- EAS tells you that an active tag passed the exit. It does not identify the item. For item-level information, see RFID loss prevention.

EAS and the rest of WELLPOINT
The exit that carries an EAS antenna is also the best place to count customers. The WELLPOINT People Counter can be mounted directly on the pedestal. And when merchandise is RFID-tagged at source, the same label can protect the item at the exit and make inventory visible with RFID read points.
