Hardware and software designed together
Does WELLPOINT make its own hardware? For People Counting and RFID, yes. We develop the device and the software around it as one system, from the physical product to the data in WELLPOINT.cloud. This page explains why.

Why not just connect third-party devices?
You can build a people-counting or RFID solution by buying a generic sensor or reader, a gateway, a SIM router, some middleware and a dashboard product, and integrating them. Many projects do. The result usually works, after a project. It also has five vendors, five firmware versions and nobody who owns the whole thing.
WELLPOINT chose the other route: design purpose-built hardware around the actual use case, with the connectivity and the cloud software built to match. The device knows exactly how to talk to WELLPOINT.cloud. The cloud knows exactly what the device can do. There is one company to call.
What "purpose-built" means in practice
- The WELLPOINT People Counter is a compact camera-free Time-of-Flight device with built-in mobile data, designed to be stuck beside a doorway and powered from a USB adapter. It exists to count people at an entrance, and everything about it follows from that.
- WELLPOINT RFID read points are boxed solutions: reader, antennas, power and connectivity in one housing designed for a tool crib, a vehicle, a gate or a wall. They exist to answer "what tagged items are here or passed here", not to be a general-purpose RFID kit.
What it changes for the customer
- Installation is mounting and power, because connectivity and configuration are already inside the product.
- Remote operation works from day one: settings, status and data in WELLPOINT.cloud, no site visit.
- Reliability improves when firmware, connectivity and cloud are developed by the same team and tested together.
- Data is consistent: one data model per product family, which makes export and integration simple.
Designed and built in Europe
WELLPOINT connected products are designed, assembled and tested in the European Union. That is useful credibility information, but the reason it matters is practical: the people who design the products also install them and answer the support questions, so field experience flows straight back into the next version.
Where this claim does not apply
Traditional EAS anti-theft hardware, such as antennas, pedestals, RF and AM tags and labels, is mainly produced by manufacturing partners to WELLPOINT requirements. For EAS, WELLPOINT's contribution is two decades of selection, configuration and installation experience. We say so on the EAS page as well.
