No local network required
Does WELLPOINT require customer Wi-Fi? No. Connected WELLPOINT products use built-in cellular connectivity where the product supports it, so the device talks to WELLPOINT.cloud over the mobile network from the moment it is powered. This is one of the biggest differences between a WELLPOINT deployment and a traditional technology project.

Mount, power, done. The device never joins the customer network, so there is nothing for IT to configure and nothing to break when the network changes.
Why this matters more than it sounds
Most physical-world technology projects do not fail on the technology. They fail on everything around it: waiting for the IT department, getting a guest network approved, explaining to a security team why a sensor needs an outbound connection, or driving back to a site because the Wi-Fi password changed. Built-in cellular connectivity removes that whole category of work.
It also changes who can deploy. A facility manager, a store manager or a fleet supervisor can install a WELLPOINT device without involving anyone else. Deploy without asking the customer's IT team to configure Wi-Fi for every device.
How it works
- The device contains a mobile data module with a SIM already installed. Mobile data is included in the service, not a separate contract.
- After power-up it registers on the mobile network and connects to WELLPOINT.cloud over a secure connection.
- All traffic is outbound from the device; nothing on site needs to accept incoming connections.
- Settings and status are managed remotely in WELLPOINT.cloud.
What we say plainly
- Mobile coverage is not universal. Basements, shielded rooms and remote sites may have weak signal. For the People Counter, Wi-Fi is available as a fallback; for other products we assess coverage with you.
- "No local network required" applies to products with built-in cellular connectivity. We do not apply the claim to products where it is not true.
- Data volumes are small: counts and read events, not video, which is why cellular is practical and affordable for this.
