A pharmacy behind an all-glass front

Small, high-value products, an open mall entrance and a shopfront that had to stay transparent. One slim acrylic pedestal did the job.

Environment

A pharmacy and drugstore unit inside a shopping centre. The entire shopfront is glass, the entrance is open to the mall corridor during opening hours, and the interior is bright and modern: cosmetics and supplements at the front, dispensary at the back, a small seating corner near the door.

The problem

Pharmacies carry exactly the kind of merchandise that walks out unnoticed: small, light, high-value items such as cosmetics, supplements and skincare, displayed openly close to the entrance. The owner wanted proper anti-theft protection but did not want a heavy security look. The glass front and the view into the shop were part of the concept and had to stay.

What we chose

  • A single acrylic EAS pedestal at the entrance, transparent and slim, so it reads as part of the shopfront rather than a barrier.
  • Soft adhesive labels for boxed cosmetics and supplements, deactivated at the till so customers leave without an alarm.
  • A deactivator at the checkout, positioned where products are scanned, so deactivation is part of the normal till routine.

A single pedestal is enough here because the entrance is narrow. Wider entrances get a pair, as in our supermarket installations.

Installation

The pedestal is fixed to the floor beside the door frame, with the cabling run discreetly to the base. The system was tuned on site: glass fronts and metal frames can reflect the field, so detection is tested with tagged products before the installer leaves. The whole job fits into a morning before opening.

What the pharmacy gets

  • An audible alarm when an active label passes the pedestal.
  • Protection that does not change how the shop looks or how customers enter.
  • A till routine that stays fast: scan, deactivate, bag.

For pharmacies that later move to RFID-labelled merchandise, the same entrance can carry an RFID loss-prevention gate that knows which item left.
